Creating Bootable Installation Media

Download Ubuntu 22.10
In this section we will be using Ventoy to create a bootable flash drive. This will allow us to boot multiple operating system images.
These instructions assume that the user will be using Windows to create a Ventoy drive.

Open your web browser and navigate to (or click on) the following URL to begin the download process for Ubuntu 22.10.

The file is approximately 3.8 GB in size and will take some time to complete the download. When the download is complete you will see the following file in Download’s folder.

Open your web browser and navigate to https://www.ventoy.net/en/download.html.

At the time of this document the file
ventoy-1.0.97-windows.zipwas the most current version. Click on the most current version for the Windows operating system to begin the download process to your machine. -
Note that you may be redirected to Sourceforge for the download.

When the download is complete a .ZIP compressed file like the one shown below will be in your machine’s Downloads folder.

Extract (unzip) the compressed file to the Downloads folder. A second folder will result as shown below.

Insert the USB drive into one of the USB ports on your machine. Wait for the machine to recognize the drive.

Open the unzipped Ventoy folder and locate the file Ventoy2Disk.exe and double-click it to open the user interface.

When Ventoy opens, the USB drive should be shown in the Device box. Select your USB drive. In the example below the SanDisk 3.2 Gen1 is shown.

Click the Install button to format the USB flash drive and write Ventoy.

Copy the Ubuntu 22.10 to the newly formatted USB drive.

Congratulations! You now have a bootable drive with Ubuntu 22.10. Let’s jump to the next section and install it.
