GPS

Only limited GPS receivers are supported by the platform. They are listed in the Supported Equipment section.

The GPS subsystem is 100% plug-an-play. No user intervention is required. When a supported GPS device is connected, the following occurs automatically:

  1. GPS service is started.
  2. GPS unit attempts to establish a fix.
  3. If not connected to the Internet, the time will be synchronized using GPS.
  4. GPS Time under System Information is set to Yes.

The following applications in EmComm Tools Community support GPS with zero-configuration:

  1. Navit
  2. APRS Client (YAAC)
  3. Winlink
  4. Chrony time service

If you plan to use GPS with one of the applications above, make sure that you connect the GPS unit first, then use et-mode to start or restart a mode.

If you run into issues with your GPS device, open a terminal and run: et-time. It is designed to confirm that your clock is set via the GPS and will provide the state of the time synchronization.
